Marie Martinez, MSPH, is a Project Director and Senior Analyst with Public Health Informatics, Computational, and Operations Research (PHICOR), the Artificial Intelligence, Modeling, and Informatics for Nutrition Guidance and Systems (AIMINGS) Center, and the Center for Advanced Technology and Communication in Health (CATCH), headquartered at the City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy. She has been a part of PHICOR since 2015 and has over a decade of project leadership as well as experience using systems approaches and developing mathematical and computational models to assist a wide range of decision makers in public health. Marie has authored over 30 peer-reviewed articles which have been covered in news outlets such as New York Times, USA Today and Forbes.

  • Her current research primarily involves developing models for both communicable and non-communicable diseases, with a focus on obesity prevention and simulating the health and economic value of various nutrition and physical activity interventions. She also leads the USAID SPACES (Strategic Program for Analyzing Complexity and Evaluating Systems) consortium which brings systems approaches to international development. SPACES has completed 11 projects in diverse regions and sectors ranging from market systems, political economy, health supply chains, and education. Ms. Martinez received a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from Johns Hopkins University in 2012 and a Master’s of Science in Public Health from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2014.
